Waste Management Advocacy and Stream Adoption

The project was inspired by its objectives and the aims - which were to make people aware of waste management. Furthermore, the team's motivation to achieve zero waste production along with creating advocacy programs for people by the means of social media platforms, especially in school where we have young leaders who can become an agent of change and bring positive change to the community. The project was also driven by the aim to encourage other people and be cautious of their actions.
The project was carried out in the capital city of Bhutan, specifically Ngabiphu. Its aim is to benefit about 2000 people in the community. It is carried out for the duration of one and half years, working twice a month. It was divided into two levels- the discovery level and the service level. This falls under the team form of the SWA Project where all the 35 participants dedicated their service to the local community.
Its reach was 2000 people and resulted in reduced waste production which was a great success. Moreover, it contributed to achieving one of the objectives of the team- to work in collaboration with different organizations in order to bring change at the grass-root level. Thus, this project helped to work collaboratively with organizations such as Greener way and Thimphu City Corporation along with some people who want to take action and construct a waste collection facility in the Ngabiphu area.
In the process of carrying out this project with the hope to bring a positive change, it helped us learn how impactful it is to work as a team so as to achieve clean water and sanitation at the grass-root level. In addition to this, it created awareness of being a responsible consumer and a producer- life below water and work towards the common aim of community engagement. Similarly, we were also able to encourage other people who did not join the team to take action against waste production.
