Sustaining The Sunnah - 2026
The project “Sustaining The Sunnah” was inspired by the desire to support underprivileged families during the holy month of Ramadan and the occasion of Eid. Many families struggle to afford basic necessities during this time, and we wanted to ensure that they could celebrate Eid with dignity and happiness. The project also reflected the Islamic values of charity, compassion, and community service. Additionally, we aimed to promote environmental responsibility by using reusable cotton bags instead of plastic packaging.
The project was implemented in the New Eskaton, Dilu Road, Mogbazar, and Mogbazar Railgate areas of Dhaka. The initiative was led by SPL MD Mir Ashraful Islam, and I participated as the Assistant Patrol Leader (APL) of BIAM Model School & College Scout Group (BMSCSG).
The project was successfully executed under the guidance of our trainer, Samiur Rahman Khan, with the support of Former SPL Ishrak Uddin, SPLs Rafiul Islam Uday and Kazi Muntasir Abdullah, PLs Arafat Hossain Sabit, Avijeet Debnath, and Debojeet Debnath, Scout Member Abdur Rahman Rahaf, and dedicated Rover Scout MD Raiyan Mollah of Samatat Open Scout Group.
From 5 March to 10 March 2026, we conducted fundraising activities to collect donations for the project. On 10 March, our team purchased the necessary Eid essentials, including rice, lentils, potatoes, onions, oil, sugar, powdered milk, Laxmi Shemai, and Shemai. On 11 March, we packed the items and distributed 35 packets, while on 12 March we distributed an additional 30 packets. In total, 65 Eid essential packets were distributed among underprivileged families in the target areas. To promote environmental sustainability and reduce plastic waste, all items were packed and distributed using reusable cotton bags.
The project had a positive impact on both the beneficiaries and the volunteers involved. A total of 65 underprivileged families received essential food items, helping them prepare for Eid and reducing their financial burden during Ramadan. The initiative spread awareness about the importance of community support and social responsibility. The use of cotton bags also encouraged environmentally friendly practices by reducing plastic consumption. Furthermore, the project strengthened teamwork, leadership, and volunteerism among the participating scouts and rover scouts.
Through this project, I learned valuable lessons about leadership, teamwork, planning, communication, fundraising, and resource management. I gained practical experience in coordinating volunteers, organizing logistics, and ensuring that assistance reached deserving beneficiaries efficiently. The project also taught me the importance of sustainability and environmental consciousness through the use of reusable cotton bags.
To improve the project in the future, I would focus on raising more funds and involving additional volunteers so that we can support a larger number of families. I would also start the fundraising process earlier, conduct a more detailed beneficiary assessment, and seek partnerships with local organizations and businesses. These improvements would help increase the project’s reach, efficiency, and long-term impact on the community.
