Scout Bazaar - Sustainable Development Goals (Awareness, Innovation, Impact)

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a collection of 17 global goals set by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015 for the year 2030. These following 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership.

In view of foregoing, Ismaili Karimabad Scout Unit (IKSU) planned an event with the name of “Scout Bazaar”, in which eight patrols of IKSU participated for an epic gala of competition mainly a combination entrepreneur skills and scouting skills to enhance an overall skill set and help contribute in SDGs.

IKSU planned this event to enhance entrepreneurial skill set amongst scouts by involving SDGs. As any business idea requires a solution that addresses a certain problem. However, each SDGs in its innate nature relates to a problem. Every patrol selected their own SDG out of following SDGs that are consciously shortlisted as per their applicability in Pakistan:

  1. NO POVERTY
  2. CLIMATE ACTION
  3. LIFE ON LAND
  4. LIFE BELOW WATER
  5. CLEAN WATER AND SANITATION
  6. QUALITY EDUCATION
  7. NO HUNGER
  8. GOOD HEALTH AND WELL-BEING

Consequently, after successful selection of SDG, every patrol was assigned a mentor to facilitate them in implementation of their idea. Brainstorming sessions were done by the patrols involving their mentors and leadership of IKSU. Moreover a marketing campaign was also conducted through Social Media page titling – “Scout Bazaar Portal”. This helped bring in new ideas and solutions that a patrol can address while contributing to their SDGs. After successfully structuring the idea of each patrol, each patrol gone through the implementation phase at community level and showcased the efficiency of their solution(s) that might become a breakthrough in Pakistan Society.

Consequently, an Awareness Creation Desk (ACD) was also set up in Karimabad Jamat Khana. As name suggests, it helped Scouts to interact with Jamati members and create awareness amongst Jamati members about their role and contribution towards SDGs. It also helped our Scouts to invite suggestion and comments from Jamati members for better results.

In this regard, a final exhibition was held in Jamat-Khana on November 15, 2019, where all these patrol will present their SDGs and related execution to Jamati members. This exhibition also helped community members to feel their sense of responsibility towards SDGs and preach the same to their fellow as well.
