Emergency response to the earthquake in Morocco

Based on its scouting mission in humanitarian operations, the National Federation of Moroccan Scouting launched an immediate response plan. Immediately after the earthquake, the association, deployed solidarity caravans that toured many affected areas and provided social and economic assistance to affected families by providing tents, mattresses, clothes, food items, and organizing educational programs for children aimed at enhancing their mental health.

On the 8th of September 2023, a strong earthquake measuring 6.8 struck Morocco approximately 70 kilometers southwest of Marrakech. According to official statistics, 3000 people lost their lives. With an estimated impact on 2.8 million people, including more than 30% (840,000) children.

The project focused on providing educational and psychological support to children, adolescents, and youth through a comprehensive and immediate response, while enhancing and strengthening the capacities of scout associations and educational leadership. Whereas the government and other stakeholders focused on the economic aspect, providing shelter, water, and access to essential facilities.
