Boy Scouts of the Philippines, Manila Council, Brighton Venturers, Yangco Elementary School, Ticket to Life, ERDA Tech, Xavier School & ASMEPPS participated in the 30th International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) last September 27, 2014 held in Las Piñas-Parañaque Protected Critical Habitat Eco-Tourism Area (LPPCHEA). This year’s event focused on the theme: “Bayanihan para sa Malinis na Katubigan at Karagatan” (Unity for the Clean Water and Sea). The activity was spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources through its Staff Bureau, Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB). Brighton Venturers worked hand in hand with other volunteer groups to clean up the coastlines of the said area. The Brighton scouts were headed by Sctr. Dexter C. Villa, . Sctrs. Tina Pelayo, Sophia Castillo, Peter Marc Magsalin, Raymundo Duatin and Ms. Eloisa Olivera headed the Yangco E.S., Ticket to Life, ERDA Tech, Xavier School and ASMEPPS respectively. In the start of the program, Brighton Senior Crew Leader and Messengers of Peace National Ambassador Carl Andrew Jeff Angeles was assigned to lead the prayer of the said event. The group picked up, ticked and counted down the garbage that they collected in the said area themselves. This activity was intended to awaken the awareness of our scouts and to encourage them to take part in supporting the fight against marine debris that continuously threatens the bio diversity of our marine life. Furthermore, this activity reminds us all that we must dispose our garbage properly. Using the 3R’s strategy, Reuse, Reduce, Recycle, we should classify our wastes into biodegradable and non-biodegradable types. With all of these emphasized amongst us, our earnest dream for a better marine environment, will therefore be free from such harmful residues of man.
