Scouts for SDGs in the Community

Young people across The Gambia recently came together from the 3rd - 6th of July 2025, for an inspiring and action-oriented training workshop under the Scouts for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) initiative, hosted by the Gambia Scout Association. This national training, supported by the European Union through Global Youth Mobilization, brought together 75 Scouts from across all regions of the country to build their capacity as changemakers in their communities. The workshop aimed to equip participants with practical skills to contribute meaningfully to the SDGs, with a focus on areas such as climate action, gender equality, quality education, and good health and well-being. Through interactive sessions rooted in Scouting values, participants explored how to identify local challenges, develop innovative solutions, and plan sustainable community projects. From hands-on teamwork exercises to peer-led idea development, the Scouts were empowered to translate learning into action. They worked in groups to design impactful projects, including tree-planting initiatives, school-based hygiene campaigns, and youth-led climate awareness sessions, all aimed at fostering inclusive and resilient communities. This training represents a significant milestone in the Gambia Scout Association’s commitment to the Scouts for SDGs campaign. By enabling Scouts to lead local development efforts, the association is amplifying the role of youth in shaping a better future for all. With strong backing from partners such as the European Union, Global Youth Mobilization, and local stakeholders, these Scouts are demonstrating the power of youth-led action. Their passion, leadership, and service are driving meaningful progress towards achieving the SDGs , not only in The Gambia, but also as part of the global Scouting movement’s contribution to a more sustainable world.
