The Israel Scouts are more closely associated with khaki than green... until today. The movement is now taking great strides to become environmentally-friendly and provide an example for Israeli society.

In recent weeks, the Scouts conducted a sustainability forum for senior movement members. During the four meetings of the forum, members met experts from a range of sectors and studied how the Scouts can promote sustainability in the fields of purchasing, industry, everyday life and education.

We are now working toward further steps that will come out of the upcoming forum for the advancement of sustainability.

The Scouts IT department has started to buy computers from Ecommunity, a charity refurbishing old computers and employing workers with special needs.

In Jerusalem, our leaders have built a set of rules and guidelines regarding sustainability for various establishments and activities. And in Soreq, our leaders are continuing many activities in the field of sustainability, including setting a significant waste reduction target ahead of our Passover hikes. In addition, they have organized a collection of old computers to donate to Ecommunity.

Our "Green Tribes" program is now coming to an end and we are now looking forward to next year's challenge. We are considering defining the objectives of the tribes in a way that will help coordinators better promote sustainability.

During our upcoming Passover hikes, and as part of our 100th anniversary celebrations, we will launch a cleaning project to tidy up paths and parking lots. In order to not consume unnecessary garbage, we have been provided with environmentally-friendly garbage bags. As part of the project, we will run activities for all participants on the importance of cleanliness and the preservation of nature.

Finally, we have launched a reusable plates and utensils pilot for our summer camps. We are currently working with the Ministry of Health on this project.
