WE ARE GUARDIANS OF THE NATURE AND VOLUNTEERS FOR A BETTER WORLD TOMORROW

This is an important year. The UN concluding Millenium Development Goals with success. One of the main organizations of UN, UNESCO worked on sustainable development education on the scope of Earth Charter on UN International Decade of Sustainable Development Education 2004-2014. Now. We are ready to learn about new Sustainable Development Goals. I think this goals will effect our youth programs and all environment and nature based activities. On every international day, year, decade I look mainly to Awareness campaigns by main UN authority organizing the event and campaigns by Global and local NGOs. Learn about them and try to make some simple avtivities to participate. Some time leaders like the issuu sometimes not. Now I will go on the same approach for remaining avents on 2015. And beyond. I will colect the proceedings by scouts patrols troops groups. ENVİRONMENTCOP 12 desertifcation conferance Now preperations for COP 12 of the Desertification is going on and there is 3 awareness programs on the agenda AWARENESS PROGRAM 1 Proverbs on land and soil is the first one. "Upon this handful of soil our survival depends. Husband it and it will grow our food, our fuel, and our shelter and surround us with beauty. A buse it and the soil will collapse and die, taking humanity with it" From Vedas Sanskrit Scripture – 1500 BC Humanity has lived and depended on land since ancient times. Wise men and women from different places and cultures have offered words of wisdom on how precious land and soil are to our fundamental being. They had different ways of saying so. A sample of such proverbs provided by staff at the UNCCD secretariat show how deeply the land and soil are rooted in our well-being. " 신토불이(身土不二)”, which means, “Body and Land are not two but one" was provided by Kug-Bo Shim, Republic of Korea. "Кто земле дает, тому земля втройне отдает" states, “To the one, who gives to the land, the land gives back three times more.” Russian Proverb provided by Komila Nabiyeva. “Nifae na mvua nikufae na jua”, translates into, "Do me a favor in the rainy season and I'll payback in the dry season." Kiswahili saying in Central and Eastern Africa provided by Wagaki Mwangi, Richard Byron-Cox from St. Vincent and the Grenadines "When you have land, you have the world" and in Germany you say "Der Segen der Erde zum Brot uns werde" which means "It is the soil, which gives us bread". Do YOU have such proverbs or sayings in your language? Tell us, and we will share them with others on this page. Send an e-mail to newsbox(at)unccd.int including the following: • Name • Country • Your language • Proverb you know in your language • English translation • Comment • Ata sözü içibout • • Fotoğraf yarışması için Youth programs, award schemes like World Scout Environment award and many other thing on our environment activities. These lands are the livelihood and the habitat of a large part of the world’s population. Combating desertification effectively is closely related to ensuring the sustainable use of water resources and biodiversity with their prevention, and climate change and global warming. Desertification, along with climate change and the loss of biodiversity were identified as the greatest challenges to sustainable development during the 1992 Rio Earth Summit. Established in 1994, United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) is the sole legally binding international agreement linking environment, development and the promotion of healthy soils. The “ecological footprint” is a tool that measures your personal contribution to the human consumption of resources of the Earth. This footprint can be expressed in terms of how much land is used by your activities. The ecological footprint measures the consumption of resources of a person, a state or of the whole human community. A footprint is considered sustainable when the amount of resources consumed and the amount of pollution produced in one year equals the amount that the Earth can produce, regenerate and respectively absorb in one year. Currently the ecological footprint of the entire human population in terms of land cover is estimated by some at about one and half times the size of planet Earth. Expressed in terms of time this means that Earth will need one and half years to produce the amount of resources, and to absorb the amount of pollution that is consumed and produced by us in one year. A constant and long term overuse of our planet's resources will lead to the loss of biodiversity, to food, water and energy scarcity, and to an increased vulnerability to environmental and climatic catastrophes and progressing climate change. The UNCCD Capacity Building Marketplace has prepared a list of calculators and readings below, for you to assess your own consumption. By reading the materials and calculator provided, you will be able to explore in depth the issues of land use, food production and the connected use and overuse of resources. Do you know your land footprint? Every product comes from the land in one way or another. This consumption of land is often called “virtual land” because it is not visible in the final product, even though a lot of resources are used in the production. Project REdUSE calculated the land footprint of many products. The land footprint of one bicycle is 3.4m2. The land footprint of 1 kg of beef is 22m2. • Check out the infographic Calculate your own footprint The Global Footprint network offers you a footprint calculator which allows you to see your national and personal footprint, depending on your country of residence. The calculator is based on the National Footprint Accounts data for selected nations. In addition to food there are also other categories that can be assessed for impact, such as shelter, mobility, goods and services. This calculator is aligned with the international Ecological Footprint standards which were adopted in 2006 by the Standards Committee and its partner organizations, in order to ensure that footprint studies are both credible and consistent. More about the methodology used can be found on their website. • Footprint Calculator Another calculator offered is the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) footprint calculator, which assesses the footprint for food, home, personal stuff (like appliances and gadgets) and travel choices. It shows the footprints in terms of the number of planets used. The calculator starts with a very comprehensive chart and infographics explaining the issue of ecological footprint, and then proceeds to a quiz upon which you can see what that footprint would amount to, if everybody would be consuming at the same rate. • WWF Footprint calculator (EN) • WWF Footprint Rechner (DE) Other related resources If you are looking for more resources and reading materials regarding the issue of environmental footprint and the impact of consumption on land, water, CO2 release and other indicators, please find more materials here: Soil Atlas: Facts and figures about Earth, land and fields • The land in numbers • Towards a definition of global sustainable land use • Governance screening of global land use • Urban food systems and global sustainable land use • Global sustainable land use • Global land use analysis Exhibition in Bonn, Germany As part the events to celebrate the World Day to Combat Desertification (WDCD) on the 17th of June 2015, the UNCCD Capacity Building Marketplace is organizing an exhibition in Bonn, Germany at the University’s Nassestrasse food canteen to demonstrate and visualize the environmental impact and cost for the production of the food you are eating. • Capacity Building Marketplace WDCD event AWARENESS PROGRAM 4 UN FAO YUNGA YOUTH AND United Nationd Global Alliance act,vi,ties.
