TINGGA FALLS REHABILITATION AND MASSIVE CLEAN-UP

TINGGA FALLS REHABILITATION AND MASSIVE CLEAN UP Archdiocesan Ministry on Environment (AMEN), Save Calumpang River Movement (SACARM), MATALAW and Sagip Tingga Falls Inc. (STF) are group of concerned citizens from all sectors of the community who pledged their commitment to protect the Calumpang River, Tingga Falls and our environment as a whole. They voluntarily commit themselves to increase local and provincial efforts to reduce pollution and deterioration of the environment, and we as Boy Scouts of the Philippines shares the same goal and commitment. In 2002, BSP Batangas City Council in cooperation with the City Government, City ENRO launched the SAVE TINGGA FALLS PROJECT and organized the SAGIP TINGGAS FALLS MOVEMENT composed of BSP Officials, Barangay Tingga Labac Officials, City Government officials and Media Philippine Daily inquirer STR. Series of clean up, tree planting and other special activities were held from 2002-2013., In fact, Earth day celebration was held at Tingga Falls attended by no less than the wife of DENR secretary heherson Alvarez, Mrs. Cecilia Guidote Alvarez. Another achievement of BSP Batangas City Council is the rehabilitation of 169 steps going to the falls (1 Million worth of Project). It is only after 2010 during the MOA signing between the City Government and SIDC (prime contributor of waste to the falls) that the BSP stops for its campaign to save Tingga falls with the presumption that the falls will be revive permanently. 30 Scouts from Batangas National High School (BNHS) and Tingga Itaas Sorosoro Ibaba Sorosoro Itaas National High School (TISISI) together with their Scout Leaders and staff from Batangas City Council joined hand with SACARM, AMEN and STF Inc. in the massive Clean Up that took place on June 20, 2014, Friday at Tingga Falls, Tingga Labac, Batangas City. The Clean Up started at around 5 o’clock in the morning. Fr. Dakila Ramos opened the activity with a prayer. He also led the said activity together with the help of the local government unit of Batangas City and Non-Government Organizations. The mission of the group is to rehabilitate and save Tingga Falls from the pollutants that are being thrown in the falls. As Scouts, we believe that we should act as soldiers of the Environment. We should stand as one in saving the God given gift and that is Mother Nature. MR. RAMIL BORBON, Council Scout Executive, Batangas City Council, BSP
