Scouting for life skills - End Racism Build Peace
I was motivated to take part in this project by the Fiji Scouts Association and their constant participation in peace building initiative every now and then and my former colleague who has done many community projects and assisted people in need.
this project was implemented at school level and plans were made with the Head of school and then the scouts and all non scouts were involved in peace building activities. Year groups were involved in songs, planting of trees, peace pledges and marching with some even making poster and doing painting.
Nearly one thousand people benefitted from this project. As students were educated they were asked to spread words of peace and how we can be in peace with the environment and nature with others around them including their parents and siblings and others in their community.
When children were involved in planting tree they have learned that taking care of the nature will mutually benefit them as we all relay on them for food, air and building materials. The more we plant trees the health the environment is going to be. When spreading words of peace through marching and songs, students learnt that we need to be harmony with others for the world to be a peaceful place for all and for the future to be beautiful.
