SAANSO Service Project
3 of the units of our scout group attended the 9th National Jamboree and 1st SAANSO jamboree. There was a community development programme where we along with thousands of other scouts undertook this project. We were given seeds of different fruits and vegetables and leaflets on clean and safe usage of water. We went to the neighbouring villages and distributed the seeds among the women from the less fortunate families. The women were taught how to plant the trees and cultivate the fruits and vegetables and how to sell them. This way they were financially independent and it gave the women their own way of earning. They were also able to stand on their own feet and didn't have to spend as much money on buying any food. This helped reduce poverty and inequalities. We also gave them leaflets on safe usage of clean water and how to clean dirty water. This knowledge would help the families to reduce spreading of diseases and maintain hygiene health.
