Reaching In, Reaching Out-Re-Energizing Growth
Strengthening Scouting program through Community engagement has been priority of Bhutan Scouts Association to achieve vision 2030. Scouting is vibrant in schools coving more than half the school going population as Scouts. To strengthen Scout at community level has been a great challenge in Bhutan.
Through a Scout Mobile Camp project, we are supporting local government leaders collaborate and support school drop out youth through Community Based Scouting with basic project management skills.
As part of Scout Mobile Camp, through District Scout Association and local government leaders in southern district recruited 26 school drop out youth for the program. This strategy has been adopted to reach out to the unreached youth section in Bhutan.
A 5 days residential camp has been organized under Re-energizing growth project in Bhutan. Youth were provided various skills such as resilience development, peer-helper, front liner for child care and protection and project management.
The project has transformed all participants to an active citizens as most of them were under addict recovery, mental illness and youth in conflict with law. They have been trained as peer-helpers who will create awareness program on social issues and strengthen Scouting in their local communities as a Community Based Scouts.
They will establish CBS unit in their communities and involve members including adult volunteers in various voluntary services.
The project has potential to involve and influence local government leaders in Community Based Scouting so that a strong mechanism to support and engage young people at local community is established for sustainability of Scouting program.
The similar program will be initiated for both local government leaders and youth under partnership program and engage them in dialogue for youth involvement and support in community development which Scouting can support.
