Plastic-Free Sylhet: Shohid Minar Clean-Up
Our main motivation was our strong commitment to building a cleaner Sylhet and raising environmental awareness. As members of the Metropolitan University Rover Scout Group, we felt it was our duty to take action when we noticed plastic pollution, dirty surroundings, and a lack of public awareness. This initiative was not only about cleaning but also about spreading a sense of responsibility, reducing plastic waste, and encouraging people to protect the environment.
We organized a clean-up program at Sylhet Central Shohid Minar along with our Rover Scout team. Our focus areas included roadsides, footpaths, and nearby public spaces. Divided into small groups, we collected trash, removed plastic waste, and raised awareness among the community about cleanliness, hygiene, and environmental responsibility. This effort helped improve the beauty of the landmark while promoting responsible waste management and eco-friendly behavior.
Through this project, we learned the value of teamwork, leadership, and consistent effort in keeping public spaces clean. We realized that reducing plastic pollution requires both awareness and continuous community action. Even small steps, when taken together, can make a big difference. This project inspired us to take responsibility for our surroundings and motivated others to work together for a plastic-free, greener, and cleaner Sylhet.
