Petaling District Senior Scout 80km Expedition
Just recently, the Petaling District organised a 4 day 3 night 80km expedition. The hike involving as much as 89 senior scouts started of in the Shah Alam Botanical Gardens and ended in Sri Kuala Lumpur International School. The hike is part of a senior scout badge which is one of the stepping stones of becoming a king's scout, Malaysia's highest award for senior scouts. These scouts performed multiple services along the few neighbourhoods that they hike through and that itself is a great deed to the community. However, I personally do not think that i the only gain these senior scouts have obtained throughout the 80km hike. Enduring the long hike, I'm sure that they have become more resilient, cooperative, better leaders, responsible, and most importantly, better human beings.
Moreover, they are not the only ones who benefit, we young leaders also learnt a lot from the experience of organising one of Petaling's largest hikes in the recent years. I had to manage as one of the leader's on duty on the 3rd day, delegating jobs for the leaders and logistics. It was tiring and mistakes were made but I have learnt a lot that can be brought back even to my own troop. It was also great to see the leaders working as a big team through the raging day and sleepless nights just to ensure that the scouts were safe and unharmed as we remain vigilant for that purpose. All and all I think everyone deserved a great pat in the back as everyone gave their all and returned home receiving ten folds from such a positive event.
