Mangrove Forest Conservation

Mangroves forests are slowly disappearing in Kenya's coastline. Since mangroves are usually the only available trees for the people living around the coastline, the trees are cut for firewood timber, furniture building and construction among other uses. These trees have a big role they play within the ecosystem, in fact one mangrove tree absorbs 10times more carbon than terrestrial plants. 500 'Mikoko Mwembe' mangrove seedlings were planted by Rover Scouts from the 14th Mombasa Sea Scouts KPA, the Chanikiwiti Scouts from Taita Taveta County, Ngamia 1 from Makueni County and the Paddington Rover Crew from Nairobi. The activity happened at Mikindani, Mombasa. Members of the Big Ship Company and the Kaza Moyo Women Self Help Group joined the Rover Scouts in the activity.
