The Kick it Green Soccer Tournament & Green Exhibitions

Our inspiration was the desire to replace climate despair with active, communal engagement. We believed that serious action could be fun. By merging the high energy of a soccer tournament with Global Climate Action Day, we created a powerful magnet. Our goal was to leverage the passion of 150 players and the support of 1500 people to seamlessly introduce tangible climate innovations and ensure everyone took the crucial step of planting two trees.

The project required tireless planning and collaboration between the Sprouting Green team, the UoN Kili Rover Scouts Crew, and GROVE. We structured the day around the matches, using the breaks to expose the participants and their supporters to exhibitors like Kenya Flying Labs, Momo Pencils and the UON Geography Students Society. The final phase was moving teams to the designated area for the hands on action, ensuring that every single person planted at least two trees.

The most valuable lesson was that fun is the best tool for serious climate action. The massive turnout proved that combining a beloved activity like soccer with climate action successfully transforms passive awareness into active involvement. We also learned that successful large scale projects depend entirely on strong, synergistic collaboration between diverse organizations like ours, the University of Nairobi Kili Rover Scouts, and GROVE.
