Invasive Plant Removal: Troop 91 & MountainTrue

Invasive Plant Removal: Troop 91 & MountainTrue

Scouts from Troop 91 and students from Christ School in Arden, NC worked with MountainTrue to remove invasive plants from Richmond Hill Park. Since 2002, the Western North Carolina Alliance (now called MountainTrue) has been leading work and teaching the public about the problems caused by non-native plants in the mountain counties of North Carolina. These plants are introduced accidentally or intentionally (for erosion control, livestock, and landscaping). They spread to become naturalized in the wild and tend to over-run the native plant species. Through 2015, volunteers volunteered over 300 hours. Work is ongoing by scouts and student groups. Attached are links about some of the projects where work is being done in the N.C. Mountains in order to protect biodiversity. Also there are resources to to help identify the non-native plants.
