Innocent Smiles

After organising a cultural event in my university, we had around 5000tk left over after all the expenses. So along with my university friends, I arranged an event in a local school for the poor called "Hashimukh School" (meaning school of smiles), The school had students from kindergarden to grade 7. We had arranged for finger painting for the kids below grade 1 and an educational game called "Naam, Desh, Phul, Phol"(a game to teach about the countriy's local heritage) for the older children. We also held half hour inspirational talks for the children where we tried to inspire them and instill that "Poverty should not be a limitation. You are no different. The sky is still open for them to reach the stars". We shared our stories from university and tried to inspire them to one day grow up and also fight to get into prestigious institutions and make this world a little better than it was before. With the money we had, we arranged for food and gave them a full nutritious meal.

This had been a really eye opener for us. Many of my friends are not scouts and had never had the opportunity to work in a project like this and see the actual conditions of poverty. Overall it was a very good day for the kids and we were successful in spreading awareness about "No Poverty", "Quality Education for All" and "Zero Hunger".
