ENVIRONMENT DAY AWARENESS CAMPAIGN FOR TCS EMPLOYEES AT CHENNAI
BACKGROUND
World Environment Day celebrated on 5th of June every year to sensitize the citizens of the country and involve them to protect their environment. UNEP announces a theme for every year and people from across celebrate in large scale. This year the theme is “Think, Eat, Save – Reduce your foot print and this relate wastage of food across the globe and link the carbon footprint impact the environment.
WWF-India Tamil Nadu State office in association with TCS has organized an awareness programme for TCS trainees, employees and their eco-club members. Two events organized for two different location TCS members.

1. ENVIRONMENT DAY SUSTAINABLE TALK AND ACTIVITY FOR TCS MEMBERS KARAPAKKAM
Date: 6th June 2013 – 3.00 pm to 6.00 pm
The first event was organized for TCS trainee, staff and their eco club members on 6th June 2013 from 3 pm to 6 pm at TCS office Karapakkam. The event started with brief note on WWF-India activities given by Mr. Vijayabharathi, State Coordianator following with Sustainable Development presentation by Mr. Saravanan, Sr. Education Officer, WWF, TNSO. In continuation to the presentation, Mr. Saravanan, Mr. Vijayabharathi and Mr. Anintiya Mani, Project officer conducted spaceship sustainable game with TCS associates. The members were divided into 11 groups and each group has consists of nearly 10 to 13 members and they asked to design a sustainable spaceship without damaging it. Finally, all the groups were presented their spaceship and discussed how they design the sustainable spaceship. The best three teams and best performer had received the prizes. The prizes were given by Mr. Nagarajan, Process Specialist – Health, Environment and Safety, TCS and Mr. Vijayabharathi, WWF
2. NATURE WALK AT GUINDY NATIONAL PARK

Total No: 60 (including child)
Tata Consultancy Employees along with family members arrived entrance at Guindy National Park around 0800 hrs. Mr. S. Saravanan, Sr. Education Officer, WWF-India Tamil Nadu State Office welcomed the participants and introduced his team to TCS participants. Following to that, he briefed about Guindy National Park, biodiversity and importance. The participants were taken to the nature walk by Mr. Kamaraj, biologist, Guindy National Park along with Ms. Srilekha, wildlife resource person. Mr. Kamaraj explained to group about different species of flora, forest types and their medicinal usages to them. He also showed a Rat snake, Spotted deer and Black buck during nature walk. Ms. Srilekha has explained to the group members about the forest importance and showed them various pugmarks (spotted deer, black buck and many). Participants also noticed couple of bird species during their nature walk.
The group returned to the children’s park and then they were given breakfast at around 1015 hrs. After the breakfast, Mr. Saravanan has discussed with them about nature walk and participants feedback. Following that, he discussed Guindy National Park and their important role in the ecosystem in the urban areas. He also explained to participants on various methods of wildlife count in the forest areas like pugmark, pellet count, etc to them. He showed different species pellet to them and how it should be identified. Following with discussion individual feedback were received from participants. Over all, the participants enjoyed the nature walk and learned about the Guindy Forests and their floral species. They are very much interested to spend more time in the forest and learn more about the species.
