Community Development

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECT REPORT The 6 months community development project which was a part of the Rashtrapathi requirements required us to spread awareness to the community about different topics. The topics we chose were :- • ENSURE ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY AND • COMBAT HIV AIDS MALARIA AND OTHER DISEASES. We had spread awareness through pamphlets and posters. We had also held multiple competitions in school for the students as well as the girl guides. The competitions included essay and poster making competitions. The posters made were used in spreading awareness to the community. We had presented saplings to school, made presentations and taken pledges. COMBATING DISEASES There are many misconceptions regarding HIV aids which need to be removed in our societies. December 1 is celebrated as world aids day. HIV/AIDS is one of the biggest challenges the world faces today. The rate of infection is quickly increasing and more and more people are getting ill and dying from AIDS related illnesses. .The lack of knowledge in today’s world is a major issue. It is causing the spread of many dangerous health problems. The infections can affect the eyes, digestive system ,kidneys, lungs and brain. in some cases rare types of cancers of skin or immune system are developed. Malaria is one of the major disease of mankind in the developing world . A disease caused by a plasmodium parasite, transmitted by the bite of infected mosquitoes.. It affects the blood vessels. The liver is the main organ that is affected. The kidney and lungs are affected a little more rarely affected. We had distributed pamphlets to many people all across the city. Essay and poster making competitions were conducted in school to include participation from the students as well as the girl guides . We had also visited BEL park to spread the word. We had also taken part in the Mission Indradhanush. We had spoken to Dr Raju Mathew who works in Accept Aids Home about the disease as well as the methods of prevention and the treatment. ENSURE ENVIRONMENT SUSTAINABILITY A state in which the demands placed on the environment can be met without reducing its capacity to allow all people to live well, now and in the future. 'Environmental', 'social' and 'economic' are termed to be the three pillars of sustainability , they are all inter dependant on one another. When we look at the natural environment, we see that it has a rather remarkable ability to rejuvenate itself and sustain its viability. For example, when a tree falls, it decomposes, adding nutrients to the soil. These nutrients help sustain suitable conditions so future saplings can grow. When nature is left alone, it has a tremendous ability to care for itself. However, when man enters the picture and uses many of the natural resources provided by the environment, things change. Human actions can deplete natural resources, and without the application of environmental sustainability methods, long-term viability can be compromised. One can help sustain the environment by saving electricity, not cutting down trees, saving water, preventing pollution, etc. We had given saplings to our school and planted them on campus. we had organised essay and poster making competitions. We made the students of middle and senior school take a pledge to save the environment. we also held a debate competition for the girl guides. We distributed pamphlets in Cubbon park, mg road and around our school. This project not only helped us to gain more knowledge about these various subjects but also spread awareness about these topics. The photos and other documents are attached below.
