Colombo Scout Youth Forum 2015

CSYF 2015, which was the first Youth Forum to be organized by a Scout District in Sri Lanka, was successfully held from 27th February till 1st March 2015 at Meth Arana Centre, Athurugiriya with the participation of 55 Senior and Rover Scouts from 17 Scout groups. The Youth Forum was organized as per the international standards set for Scout Youth Forums and consisted of several discussion topics facilitated by a highly qualified & renowned internal & external resource personnel. The Youth Forum in totality proposed 78 recommendations, out of which 18 have been adopted as the official recommendations of the CSYF 2015, proposed by the youth of Colombo District. Further, as a follow-up mechanism on the recommendations, the Youth Forum elected the eleven (11) member Colombo Scout Youth Council for the tenure of 2015 - 2017. Primary Objective of the Youth Forum would be Youth Engagement in Scouting in Colombo. The secondary objectives are; 1. Youth Engagement in Decision Making 2. Youth Engagement through Fellowship 3. Youth Engagement through Capacity Building Scope of the Youth Forum was on WOSM priorities for 2014 - 2017. • Educational Methods • Diversity & Inclusion • Social Impact • Communication & External Relations Topics for discussion There are two main topics, which are pre- selected based on the discussions of young people. Three more main topics were decided based on the interests of the participants, during the Youth Forum. The two pre-selected main topics are, as follows: 1) Effective programme development through innovative leadership; a. Messengers of Peace b. World Environment Programme c. Membership growth d. Year Planning 2) Role of youth organizations in Capacity Building of the Sri Lankan youth. Participant interested Main Topics are, 1) International Scouting 2) Social Media & Communication 3) Innovative Leadership An Orientation & a break out session was took placed for Messengers of Peace on 28th Feb 2015 to support the main topic “Effective programme development through innovative leadership”. MoP Orientation was conducted by Colombo MoP Coordinator Mr. Nazeef Farook which he covered the basic along with its objective & the MOP Platform Registration. The Scouts were encouraged to help the needy people along with updating the good deeds done by the Scouts in their society. The Current situation of MoP along with the future Actions on MoP were discussed at the break out session which scouts came out with few recommendations to be take place in future scouting Activities in Colombo.
