CCS Scouts train to build fires the old way!
Survival fire building? No problem! CCS teaches Scouts young and old how to build and put out fires safely!
After the fire building activity, we each planted malunggay trees in the nearby area to increase the presence of trees there.
We wanted to create an activity that is both safe and informative.
So we went to a location in Las Pinas City to safely build fires, and at the same time plant multiple malunggay trees.
We taught Scouts on how to build fires, using multiple safe methods, using:
1. Magnesium Flint
2. Friction
3. Magnifying Glass
4. Half-Match
5. 9-volt battery
On top of that, we chose a desolate area to plant malunggay trees. The area was previously a blank piece of territory.
Soon however, it will be an area full of greenery.
In fire building, we learned that the Friction method requires the most patience, and that the easiest method still is the Magnifying glass method, especially when there is abundant sunlight in the area. You can even make a fire easily from a 9 volt battery by touching the ends with a metal object, so we have to tape it over as to not cause accidents.
In tree planting, we learned that you need at least a hole an inch deep to plant the malunggay branches.
