Bhutan Community Based Scouts: Scouts for SDGs!

Scouting programs in Bhutan are in the school & tertiary education system. Community Based Scouts does exist in Bhutan in many districts in Bhutan. But, however, many remote corners of Bhutan do not have access to Scouting programs due to the lack of motorable roads. Many young people who dropped out of schools in these remote corners do not have access to Scouting activities. Hence, they do not have platform to take actions on issues related to environment, sustainable development and peace.
90 out of school youth between the age of 17-25 years who dropped out of school to work in their farms were invited to collaborate on this project with 20 Adult Scout Volunteers in order to empower them to take actions in their communities. 90 young people were from different villages in a remote town in central Bhutan where there is no motorable roads. There were 60 girls and 30 boys who collaborated with Bhutan Scouts Association to take local actions on global issues. It took us 8 days.
90 young people committed to engage 20 non-Scouts and school students to inspire and engage in Scouts for SDGs challenges as well to use the better world framework programs with these people. A total of 1800 people would benefit from this project.
I was quite inspired by the way, the out of school youth got engaged in the Scouts for SDGs challenges and how they developed a deeper understanding and appreciation of their communities.
