Beach Cleanup and Environmental Education Activity

Taiwan is a beautiful island surrounded by the ocean. Every single time I went to the beach, there's something that always got my attention. I noticed that lots of artificial trash was wasted at the beach. People left things that didn’t belong to nature. It affects plenty of marine organisms, even these effects eventually returned to humans. Thus, I took some actions at my living place. Besides cleaning the beach, I hope I could increase other scouts’ environmental awareness, too.
My partner and I had started planning this project in January. We chose the Fong Ching beach as our activity facility because we would like to do something for our hometown. At the same time, we applied to the Environmental Protection Agency. It’s a whole day activity. We designed some 2 games and 3 courses in the morning and arranged beach cleaning activity in the afternoon. The courses were about marine debris, recycling, water purification, and the history of Shiang Shan.
This activity really gave me a lot of sense of accomplishment. The children learnt some new information and understood how to recycle because of our courses. The beach was refreshed after we picked up the trash.
It was the first time I planned an event, so there were some problems that could be improved. First, I think we should choose a better location. There was little shade for people to hide from the sun, and it was inconvenient to get to the public bathroom. Second, I think I have to level up my speaking ability. Being the person in charge of the project, there must be many times that I need to announce something to everyone, but sometimes I couldn’t announce clearly.
