Batang Eskaya Scouts Organization (BESO) Project
Batang Eskaya Scouts Organization (BESO) is a group of young indigenous scouts in Bohol, Philippines that aims to preserve the culture and traditions of Eskaya tribe (especially the language and Eskaya writing system) through scouting.
Mission
To develop the young Eskaya scouts’ skills and to build their character wherein peace is promoted and Eskaya system can be also used in teaching so that they can preserve their own culture.
Vision
A dream to produce productive young Eskaya scouts that have a good character, enhanced skills, and a strong desire to maintain peace, embrace and appreciate their own tribe and help it to be preserved.
Goal
To foster all the young Eskaya scouts in Bohol be peacemakers through scouting based-activities or lessons and together with the use of Eskaya system, they can extend their knowledge about the unique system of their tribe.
Why organizing BESO?
I can see in our community that most of the youths are influenced and addicted to social media, which drives them away from our culture and tradition. I think that there is no better way to solve these than in a scouting way. Learning is fun. And this is the reason why BESO was born.
Through this, the Eskaya youths can learn about scouting as well as learning our own language and unique writing system which can really contribute in the preservation of Eskaya tribe. The objectives in BESO are to keep the use of Eskaya language and writing system and to develop the young Eskaya scouts to become morally guided, responsible, law-abiding, God-fearing individuals and hopefully, as future leaders in our country.
At present, we are happy to say that our organization is growing with the help of the Eskaya people specially with the help of God. We can see the better future of the Batang Eskaya Scouts who can be one of the good leaders someday.
“To be indigenous scouts is to be an inspiration, not only to the indigenous youths, but to all the youths all over the world.”
