28th International Coastal Clean up
BRIGHTON VENTURERS JOIN THE 28th ICC
Boy Scouts of the Philippines, Manila Council, Brighton Venturers participated in the 28th International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) last September 21, 2013 held in Las Piñas-Parañaque Protected Critical Habitat Eco-Tourism Area (LPPCHEA).
This year’s event focused on the theme: “Bayanihan para sa Malinis na Karagatan” (Unity for the Clean Sea). The activity was spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources through its Staff Bureau, Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB).
Brighton Venturers worked hand in hand with other volunteer groups to clean up the coastlines of the said area. The Brighton scouts were headed by Sctr. Dexter C. Villa, Institutional Scouting Coordinator and Sctr. Joseph Pacao, Assistant Outfit Advisor. In the start of the program, Brighton Sct. Markell Daniel Padua was assigned to lead the prayer of the said event. The group picked up, ticked and counted down the garbage that they collected in the said area themselves. This activity was intended to awaken the awareness of our scouts and to encourage them to take part in supporting the fight against marine debris that continuously threatens the bio diversity of our marine life. Furthermore, this activity reminds us all that we must dispose our garbage properly. Using the 3R’s strategy, Reuse, Reduce, Recycle, we should classify our wastes into biodegradable and non-biodegradable types.
With all of these emphasized amongst us, our earnest dream for a better marine environment, will therefore be free from such harmful residues of man.
