2023 Biodiversity Maintenance Camp

The location of this activity is the Lishantu Campsite, which is located in Xiaocukeng, Xindian. The farmland there was abandoned due to population migration, and now the terraced fields are covered with wild ginger flowers. Besides, the spotted-legged tree frogs have been found to invade and reproduce, affecting the survival of native frogs. The aim of this project is trying to remove wild ginger flowers and spotted-legged tree frogs, and reconstruct the habitat.

Before the event started, we collected background information, understood the area and scope of the invasion of alien species of animals and plants; discussed the possibility of human removal and habitat reconstruction. In addition, we invited professional lecturer to give lectures on the definition of biodiversity, conservation practices, introduction of exotic species and strong species, and night observation methods, so that participating service partners can first establish correct concepts.

After background information collection and lectures by professional lecturers, wild ginger flowers and spotted-legged tree frogs were choose as the targets in this project. During the night observation process, spotted-legged tree frogs were captured manually, the location and the amounts of follicles produced by these frogs were recorded and removed. During the daytime activities, the wild ginger flowers were removed, and the original appearance of the Taiwan fir planting area was restored.

I obtained a lot of valuable experiences in this project. We removed alien species of animals and plants and made the cautions of participants seriously maintain the land where we grew up. This event is the beginning of the Lishantu Camp Biodiversity Project. I will like to attend and invite more people to join more events of this project.
