(2019 June) Community Project with Kechara Soup Kitchen
Our troop volunteered to help Kechara Soup Kitchen to give out surplus food to the people in need which are registered under Kechara's list. Troop members were split into 3 teams which carried out different duties.
The first team brought storable food such as canned food and rice to households in need. The team visited several households in the flat and passed the food to them personally.
The second team stayed at the park where they distributed bread to the people. The regulars lined up to collect the bread.
The third brought surplus vegetables from a hypermarket to an old folks' home.
It was a meaningful experience to all of us as it really opens up our eyes to a different side of the world. While we're having a comfortable life and took things for granted, there are people out there who struggle in day-to-day life. It teaches our scouts to appreciate the things they have and to help people whenever they can.
