Srikara Bhanja Scout and Guides,Odisha-TTL Project
The Ticket to Life (TTL) team in collaboration with Srikara Bhanja Open Unit and Sattvic Soul Foundation conducted a proactive Turtle Rescue Operation at Podampeta Sea Beach, Ganjam. Several stranded Olive Ridley turtles, including fragile hatchlings, were safely rescued and released back into their natural habitat. A significant threat encountered during the mission was the presence of ghost nets—abandoned fishing nets drifting along the coast. These silent hazards pose a fatal risk to baby turtles by entangling them and causing injury or death. The operation not only safeguarded this vulnerable species but also raised vital awareness about marine pollution and the urgent need for responsible coastal conservation. Volunteers emphasized the need for both community engagement and policy-level action to protect marine biodiversity.
In a continued effort to serve the environment and community, the Scouts and Guides of Srikara Bhanja TTL, under the guidance of Ranger Sari Sarda Dalai of the Srikara Bhanja Open Crew, organized a plogging drive in the local area. They cleaned up a nearby pond and temple premises, collecting and segregating over 10 kilograms of plastic waste. The activity promoted environmental cleanliness and spread awareness about plastic pollution.
The team also actively participated in the Children’s Day celebration at New Era Public School, Buguda, alongside other Scouts, Guides, Rovers, and Rangers. On this meaningful occasion, the Rovers and Rangers of Srikara Bhanja Open Crew extended their celebration beyond the school walls by visiting underprivileged and rural areas in Karchuli Grama Panchayat under Buguda Block. In these remote villages, they distributed educational materials such as textbooks, pens, pencils, and food items to children who lack access to basic resources. This outreach effort highlighted their commitment to the “Ama Pathasala” initiative, quality education, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) promoted through the Ticket to Life project.
These activities reflect the vibrant spirit and community-centered focus of Srikara Bhanja TTL, where Scouts and Guides work tirelessly to protect the environment, support education, and uplift marginalized communities. With renewed hope, energy, and motivation, the team continues to walk the path of service, driven by the values and vision of Scouting and the Ticket to Life initiative.
