World Youth Camp 2018

The World Youth Camp with the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics 2018 in Pyeongchang from the 22nd of February to the 26th of February were all we were excited about. Our flight was on the 22nd February which was a Thursday at 2:00 A.M. We flew with Asiana Airlines and it took 8 hours from Delhi to Incheon International Aiport , Seoul. The 8 hours passed by comfortably with most of the time spent in eating delicious food and watching Hollywood movies. We reached the Incheon International Airport at around 1:30 P.M ( South Korean Time ) and were warmly welcomed by the World Youth Camp volunteers. We could evidently feel the temperature difference as soon as we stepped out of the aiport. We were taken to the Elysian Gangchon Ski Resort by a bus which took around 2 hours. The opening ceremony was held and we were given our rooms and keys. We were allotted groups and troops. We were in group 2 and troop 5. On Friday we were woken up at 6:30 A.M and after breakfast we were taken to the Phoenix snow park where we saw a live game of Ski Cross with Canada , France , Norway competing for qualifications. The atmosphere at the pheonix snow park was bamboozling but it was too cold aswell. After that we were taken to a speciality restaurant which had various Korean dishes. We were then hosted by the Governer of the Gangwon Province for a dinner which was very hospitable. Then the scout from Bosnia,Pakistan and Herzegovina talked about MOP's ( Messengers of Peace ) and how vital it is in the world right now. Then on the 24th , We had breakfast and went straight for the Edicational tour in Chun-Cheon city which started with Rail biking across the hills and beside the snow clad peaks. It was bone-chilling cold as we went through the area with the rail bikes. The Gangam Style and some pop songs inside the tunnels rejuvenated us in -4 degrees Celsius. After that we went Canoeing where we were taught about canoeing and the safety instructions. Canoeing was a lot of fun as we saw the beautiful landscapes of Chun-Cheon. We were then taken to the city which was the last part of the educational tour. We were given a token or certificate of 10,000 Korean Won which could be used in traditional shops to buy stuff only in the Gangwon province. It was brilliant looking at the food and the traditional things. We could see all the big name brands out there. Then we had Lunch at a traditional restaurant where there was a pan with chicken and vegetables in a pan which was getting heated and people sat around it. We were offered lettuce , special chilly Korean sauce , onions and coke ( refillable ) and the food tasted delicious. We were then taken to the Pyeongchang 2018 winter Olympic Games festival which had the very famous K-Pop ( Korean Pop ) singing and dancing. It took half an hour to settle inside the stadium and we were offered special seats in the middle to have a better and a memorable experience of the show. We saw the winner of the "show me the money" shows and some very famous k Pop groups which got us to our feet as we all danced and sung. On the 25th , which was the second last day of the camp , we went to skiing just after having the breakfast which included some cereals and milk. The Elysian Gangchon Ski Resort was something out of the world. It even had its ski park which was maintained very well. So we changed our gears and put on helmets and gloves and were put in a group according to our experience in skiing. After we were taught the basics for half an hour , we went to a slope and tried skiing down from it which went very well and amusing for us. In an hour , we were already ace and set out on the escalator to ski down from a mountain. The experience was wonderful as we ski past everyone and we tried that several times but from different slopes. After lunch , we had to ski again which couldn't have got better as we enjoyed our hearts out. That day was very tiring as went for dinner and then for the Pyeongchang's International night where we had to showcase our tradition and culture , which we did exceptionally well. We showcased pictures of Kashmir , Houseboats and traditional Rajasthani handicrafts and got appreciation from people of 72 different countries. We then exchanged scarfs , voggles and gifts with scouts from different countries like Argentina , Denmark , Serbia etc. Lots of pictures made the last memories of the world youth camp 2018 and everyone went to sleep with a heavy heart that day. On the 26th , we had breakfast early as we had to depart for Incheon International Airport at 12 P.M by shuttle. We met everyone and bid goodbye to them hoping to meet them again. Most of the scouts had their flights on the 26th of February and we went to the airport together. Our flight , which was Asiana airways landed in Delhi at 1:30 A.M ( Indian Standard Time ) and we reunited with our families. This experience will be edged in our memories forever.
