WE ARE SCOUTS - WE ARE HERE
On the early morning of 1st of April, 2018, Tropical Cyclone Josie, a Category 1 Cyclone stuck Western Fiji devastating 6 districts that included Rakiraki, Tavua, Ba, Lautoka, Nadi and Sigatoka, affecting over 27,000 people directly and 77,000 people indirectly. Approximately, about 3000 Scouts and Scout Leaders have been also affected by this aftermath. In addition, there were over 6 casualties that have been reported and few not reported as authorities are still gathering information in regards to this. Details of this aftermath can be found on website or can be googled.
Likewise, people have lost their houses, livelihoods and the daily lives are totally a big challenge. Aftermath health issues have already started like disease outbreaks, etc. As such, Scouts are already on the scene doing their best whatever is possible such as cleaning up, helping alternate shelter, bringing helpless people to hospitals, collecting relief materials through areas not affected and other agencies. Likewise, our scouts partnered with non-scouts and volunteer groups and did community services to the helpless and the flood victims in the form of clearing debris from their houses, taking the elderly to nearby medical centres, organising simple activities for children to divert their current situation and other scouts organised donation drives such as clothes and food ration. This project was be able to support the affected scout leaders and scouts and also our badly affected non-scouts in the Western Part of Fiji.

From the grant money given by APR has helped us in purchasing Emergency Kits that consisted of clean bottled water, cooking appliances, basic food ratios and blankets and bed-sheets. We did not only tried to help our affected scouts but also those needy non-scouts who were already inspired by the current way of work done by our scouts at the scene.
