WATERING FOR SUSTAINABILITY
The thought of watering plants daily is vital boosted 8 of us to carry out this project. Water is vital for the life and survival of all plants.
Water is also essential for the transportation of nutrients and sugar from the soil to the plant. All plants will suffer from water shortage or drought at some point. This can be fatal in some cases or severely slow the growth of those plants.
In light of the above information, this watering project has been life giver to the plants and vegetables.
This project took place in the City of Lautoka. Due to the current pandemic situation this project is home based where 23 families in the neighbouring area continued to provide water to their plants and vegetables daily since January in a sustainable manner.
We carried out watering process during the morning, mid-day and afternoon sessions.
We made sure to keep the garden soil moist. We watered thoroughly.
While watering we kept the leaves dry to avoid diseases.
This project was carried out by 8 people and then 23 other families used this method after seeing the positive results of our plants due to the timely watering methods.
This daily project has had an amazing impact on the gardens and the people living within the neighbourhood has began experimenting.
We have learned to:
1. Hydrate plants in the morning and afternoon.
2. Don't water too frequently or too little.
3. Do water plants at soil level.
4. Do check moisture levels.
5. Don't rely on rain.
6. Don't over water.
