Water Harvesting Project in Marange area
Scouts in partnership with ENACTUS Bindura help the people in Marange area enhance agriculture through Water Harvesting. Water harvest uses infiltration pits and tight contours to hold water and enhance farming. The Marange Area is characterized by low rainfall patterns of 200mm but through Water Harvesting they yield 600mm of rainfall and they are able to retain water for other gardening purposes. The area is also very hot to even extremes. The people in this area could only grow Sorghum but through Water Harvesting they now grow maize comfortably. To enhance the sustainability of the Water Harvesting Techniques they have moved a step further to create small dams to retained water all year round until the rains come again. They wish to install solar pumps and irrigate their farms all year round. This farming technique change their lives as they now have enough to feed their family and even surpluses to sell. All credits goes to Professor Nyamadzawo (Bindura University Of Science Education) for professional training.
