Water for Elephants!
Following immense droughts in Botswana, Kent Scouts decided to volunteer at Wild at Tuli Reserve in Botswana's Tuli Block.
We reconstructed a waterhole that had been decommissioned for some years due to an elephant knocking down the wind turbine that powered it.
We wanted to reconstruct it to help preserve biodiversity and animal life in the block.
Our team of 30 carried out numerous tasks, including replacing the old pipe, installing solar panels, building a natural protective fence around the solar panels and cleaning out the waterhole.
We did this over 5 days seeking guidance from local experts as to make the project in keeping with local sustainability practices.
We learnt that any action, however small, can still help the environment.
This project helped us appreciate why reserves like Wild at Tuli are needed and just how incredible elephants are and the need to preserve them and their natural habitat.
