Water and hygiene project with 1st Manzemba
This project was to educate the community about hygiene and using water wisely. Scouts learned about proper hand washing culture and motivated children to embrace and share proper hand washing practices and place them as ”hand washing ambassadors” within their communities.
The Scouts from 1st Manzemba did not go door to door empty handed, they went there with knowledge and soaps. After the talk with the families Scouts gave the family members a chance to ask questions and the family members were also given a soap, they could keep, and water to demonstrate what they have learnt.
Families were trained on how to save water. As a demonstration Scouts used cans or plastic bottles that release a small amount of water just enough for washing the hands.
One of the group’s future plans is to take 20 Scouts to Nandoni water Laboratory, where they will learn more about things such as water treatment, water quality, germs and waterborne disease. Those Scouts will then share what they have learnt there with other Scouts and do other future projects together.
