"VOLUNTEERS" – "The heart of the community"

A group of 42 Community Based Scouts joined hands since they believed that the best thing a person can donate is their time. Community service and volunteerism are very important component for Scouts in Bhutan. We believe that it is the duty of every individual to help others in their community and beyond. There are many ways that we feel that Scouts of Bhutan would benefit from community projects. One, it would take the focus off us and make us more aware of the world and people around us. Secondly, in this materialistic world, everybody is so wrapped up in themselves that we tend to lose sight of things in life that truly make us happy. The kind of good feelings that one derives when we are able to help somebody out are more rewarding than a paycheck. That's what we wanted to share with a community of a District in the southern part of Bhutan. We helped in transplanting paddy for two days in a community in Tsirang, Bhutan. Work began from 6 in morning with breaks for only lunch and refreshment, that too for just an hour in total. Work stopped work only at 6 pm (12 hours a day) Work was quite challenging since people in that region still use the old method of cultivation. No machines and modern equipment to plough their land. People still use bulls for cultivation. It was an incredible experience. "
