Unforgettable Moment of Thailand Jamboree
For me, this camp is not an ordinary camp like the one's I usually join before. This camp is very memorable, so I am writing about this experience even though the date has passed about almost a year. I still feel like it was just yesterday that I was at the camp because my memories towards this camp are still fresh so I will be writing about my experience that made me feel extremely difficult to forget.
This camp is named The Scout Jamboree Celebration For The Coronation Of King Rama X that was held at Samila Beach, Songkhla, Thailand. I think this camp is totally extraordinary because there are many scouts from other countries than mine participated. When I reached the campsite, I thought I will be meeting scouts from Thailand only but luckily I met scouts from Indonesia and what made me feel excited is that when I knew that scouts from Brunei Darussalam will build up their tents in a similar area of the campsite of the Malaysia scouts. Participants from all over Malaysia are between 14-16 years old as it is under the Malaysian Ministry of Education (KPM) program. Participation consists of more than 3000 participants for this camp.
I could build new relationships with other Associations of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries from this activity. Most of the activities that were held involved international cooperation from the scouts. Different skin colour, races, and languages are not barriers for us to finish up our mission. We used technology like Google Translate to communicate. For me, it was so much fun! Now, I am going to share my journey during this camp.
16 June 2019, Samila Beach, Songkhla, Thailand - Malaysian participants travelled from Padang Sanai, Kedah to the border of Thailand, the international management entry and exit matters. Upon completion of all registration matters, we are required to leave the vehicle provided by the organizers as we need to board the lorries provided in Thailand. The journey to Samila Beach is about 2 hours. Once we arrived at the destination, our arrival was celebrated by Thai scouts. The dance performance was performed by Thai dancers as a welcoming ceremony upon our arrival. We were given a wreath of flowers each as a sign of welcome to the land of Thailand. On that day we were only given a briefing before tomorrow's activity started.
June 17 2019, Samila Beach, Songkhla, Thailand - We have been given an activity card to follow every activity carried out. My patrol did water activities. Some of the interesting activities were tugged the flag, tug-of-war in the water, handball in the water, kayaking and building sandcastles by the beach. These activities have strengthened our bond and it turns out that language and state differences are not a barrier for scouts to manage any activity. On that night, a total of 40 participants from the Malaysian contingent held training for the jamboree opening ceremony which will occur the next day (June 18, 2019). All participants are required to return to their tents in preparation for the next day.
June 18 2019, Samila Beach, Songkhla, Thailand - My patrol did extreme activities in the designated area. The activities were flying fox, crush the box and through small bridges. One of the benefits that I have found throughout this program is learning to control balance. In addition, it teaches me to understand the concept of bonding in an activity. The activity ends at noon. We are getting ready to go to Tinsulanon Stadium for the jamboree opening ceremony. Then, the ceremony ended at 6:30 p.m. At 9:00 pm we were allowed to shop around the beach. We returned to the campsite at 11:30 p.m.
June 19 2019, Samila Beach, Songkhla, Thailand - This is the last day of doing activities. My patrol has done science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) activities in the scout concept. The activity included pushing a ball using the Archimedes principle. In addition, we also did culinary activities. The dishes I have tried are Somtam, onde-onde and many more. We managed to continue shopping while waiting for the other patrol to arrive at the campsite. Free time activities continue until the afternoon. In the evening, the closing ceremony was held on the stage. The ceremony ended at 12:00 pm.
That is all I could remember until today. I still keep in touch with my scout friends that I met during the Thailand Jamboree. Unexpectedly, some of them posted a few scout badges from their country. From here I could see that places do not make memories but it is us who creates them.
