Tree Planting in celebration of B-P Day 2021
It is common practice within the Scouting community that before the celebration of Baden-Powell Day, tree planting activities throughout the world are initiated to promote nature awareness in accordance with the principles of the Scouting Movement. The Boy Scouts of the Philippines, Davao City Council, has initiated 2 days of tree planting activities on separate dates, one on February 13, 2021 at BSP Camp Malagos and one on February 20, 2021 at the City Mangrove Reservation in Bucana.
Two tree planting activities were initiated for 2021's Baden-Powell Day celebration of the Davao City Council. The first tree planting activity occurred on February 13, 2021 at the activity area of BSP Camp Malagos, garnering approximately 100 participants from various local units. The second tree planting activity occurred on February 20, 2021 at the city's Mangrove Reserve in Bucana with approximately 30 or so participants. Certificates and snacks were provided at the said venues.
The tree planting activity has provided benefits to the community and to the planet in general. Two impacts can be observed with these types of activities: first is that the Scouts participating in this activity can foster more awareness towards his/her surroundings and the common home, while at the same time the local environment and community can benefit from such actions by providing additional security to the future of this world by planting trees that can benefit the populace.
The learnings from this project is consistent with the policies and principles of the Scouting Movement and the Boy Scouts of the Philippines, which focuses more now than ever to being conscious to the environment. What we need to learn from participating in these activities is comparable to the story of the Parable of the Mustard Seed: that our care for nature through these activities, no matter how small, can subsequently have a large impact in the future.
