Time to Think & Act: We do not have a PLANet-B
"It’s easy to be blasé about polar ice-caps melting while sitting in the comfort zone of our respective latitude and longitude, but when you can visibly see glaciers retreating and ice shelves collapsing, you begin to realise that the threat of global warming is very real." From Tishani Doshi's 'Journey to the End of the Earth'. This very lines strike my conscience when I have to explain this to my students in the class. I decided to do SOMETHING which would make my students actually realise.
With the young Scouts, Guides, Cubs, Bulbuls as well as other students and teachers of Kendriya Vidyalaya Rangapahar Cantt. we carried out a rally in the neighborhood for creating awareness. The students made their own placards with their own slogans and illustrations.
Our school is inside cantonment, the rally covered a part of the cantonment where the estimate number of residents is 150. The volunteers of the rally interacted and distributed leaflets to the people who were met.
What was satisfying to me was the fact that the youngsters, if guided and motivated can actually bring about a change in this world to make it better. And what was eye opening to me was the truth that what the adults consider trivial could have dire consequences in the near future. Therefore, no matter young or adult, we all should motivate each other to protect our home called 'earth'.
