TIDE TURNERS PLASTIC CHALLENGE- 414th Kandy Sussex
Plastic pollution is a man-made issue, and we must all have a role in resolving it. The improper consumption and disposal of single-use plastic are causing disastrous issues to all living species including plants & animals and ultimately human beings. This inspired us to make a change and to plan a project which reduces the plastic discarded into the environment by finding methods to reuse them in a very effective way and thereby encouraging and creating awareness among the community.
Our project was implemented in our school, Sussex College-Kandy, with the support of our principal, scout mistress, parents, and scout troop. We planned to do a wall painting, about marine pollution, in one of our school buildings alongside the main road and plastic bottle creations. We got together at our school and obeying the current health guidelines, we created plastic bottle creations, including a plastic bottle troop name board, a plastic bottle gateway, and more than 50 bottle planters
The area we chose for the project will be facing the road as we intend to focus not only on inspiring the students and staff of the school but also make aware the parents and passersby. Through our wall paintings, we expect to give a glimpse of the threats our oceans face and inspire others to take action. With our plastic bottle creations, we aim to give people a reflection of the amount of plastic waste they generate and take responsibility for the consequence of their consumption patterns.
We learnt that we consume so much plastic than we think we do. As we never went out of plastic bottles throughout our whole project, it made us realise the gravity of the issues caused by the improper consumption and disposal of plastic waste and how much it can harm the environment we live in, creating an unsustainable state of the planet in the future.
