Teddies for Tots
Children in the long term stay ward at Baragwanath Chris Hani Academic Hospital had a lack of toys and books.
The cubs were asked to collect used toys that were in good condition to bring to the meeting. The cubs played a knotting game with the toys "rescuing" them. They toys were collected together and packed nicely and taken to the children's ward at the hospital.
There were about 20 children in the ward at the time of hand over. The smiles on the children's faces were heartwarming.
The cubs learned that old toys did not need to just sit unused or be thrown away. They could bring joy to another child. The cubs found out that some children need to be in hospital for an extended time. Due to the nature of the illnesses, the cubs were not allowed at the ward. The scouter handed over the toys and books and the nursing staff assisted with distribrution.
