Survivors Support Through Outreach Prevention | Promoting Proper Education & Awareness Regarding Sexual Violence

On August 29th, 2020, students from Central Kitsap School District (CKSD) rallied to protest the Central Kitsap School District's handling of sexual assault cases. Historically, when students reported instances of sexual assault to school counselors or administrators, their reports were dismissed, diminished, ignored, or covered up. As Student Body President of Central Kitsap High School - the largest of three high schools in CKSD - I organized a task force of approximately 30 student leaders to investigate the school district's current handling of sexual assault cases and devise a substantive, long term solution that would bring justice to survivors of sexual assault. After months of meetings with school and district administrators, community stakeholders, and students, the task force created an initiative called "Survivors Support Through Outreach Prevention," a community organization with the goal of preventing sexual violence through education and awareness. This project helps to bring justice to the victims of sexual violence throughout CKSD and will play a role in directly shaping the education of the thousands of students that belong to Central Kitsap School District.
