Supporting Leaders in Scouting: Leaders Handbook
The Estonian Scout Association has been analyzing itself and we have found that we have a desperate need
to remake our program to be more welcoming to our youth and create a new way to support and find new
leaders as grownups don’t have enough time to contribute to scouting. Modernizing and reinvigorating the
program requires many resources. That motivated us to combine a book that would support the leaders in their journey.
The project included the development and design of the Handbook for Scout Leaders that would support and guide them in delivering the scouting program and leading youth. The project was executed by a team of volunteers on the national level and the final Leades' Handbook shared with the active leaders of the organization to be implemented and used in their work with scouts.
Thanks to the leaders handbook the education we give in scouting is in better quality and new adults are more likely to start their own troop as they now have the necessary supporting material.
We panned to make the Leaders handbook for a decade, project was started and stopped, started and paused again. Finally we found a project leader who got thru all the feedback and leaders options and obstacles on the way and (although not in originally planned time schedule) managed to finish the handbook by the end of 2021. It was definitely a challenging process but a very necessary and also rewarding one.
