Success through Synergy: Advocacy on Waste Management

Success through Synergy: Advocacy on Waste Management

2600 Scouts and Scout Leaders Of Thimphu City carried out a massive project on waste management in the theme: "Success Through Synergy" “Kuzuzangpo la, do you segregate your waste at home?” asked Karma Dolma, a 13 years old scout, to two 78 years old elder people; upon receiving the answer “No, we don’t”, Karma helped the two elders understand the importance of waste management. Karma was one of the 2600 scouts and Scout leaders who had taken part in an advocacy program on Waste Management on the theme “Success Through Synergy”. On 29th April, 2017, The Thimphu Scouts Association had organized a massive advocacy on Waste Management covering the entire Thimphu City, the capital of Bhutan. The scouts went door to door, educating the communities on: i. The importance of waste segregation ii. 4 Rs (Rethink, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) iii. The negative impact of the non-degradable waste on the environment iv. The new penalty system to be imposed on the residents/house owners if they don’t segregate the waste as per the new law. The advocacy program was a great success that the Bhutan Broadcasting Service covered the story on the same day. It was fascinating to watch children educating the adults and the adults listening and learning from younger generation; it was indeed a day of “Success Through Synergy” where the entire citizen came together to combat waste to keep our city Clean and Green.
