Strategic Planning and Youth Programme
The Scouts of Sierra Leone Youth Programme required updating in order to meet the needs and aspirations of the young people in the country. Four main activities were identified in order become more relevant and strategic to attract more young people into Scouting.
The primary objective of this project was to develop a Youth programme that is more attractive and relevant to young people between the ages of 12 and 24 years. The NSO has: (1) Conducted a Youth Programme Developers Training and Review Workshops; (2) Delivered a basic Training Courses for Programme Dissemination; (3) Conducted a Patrol Leaders Training Course and Better World Framework Training; and, (4) Produced the programme and training manuals.
So far, at least 74 participated, 904 beneficiaries and 486 new members recruited.
Following increased local or community participation consultations, this has helped to onboard community members including young people, adults, both scouts and non-scouts. This has increased the quality of youth programming, built capacity of the team, and enhanced strategy on membership recruitment/retention drive and resource mobilization. We have learned that community involvement and participation is critical, hence this something we will apply in our programmes.
