"Special" gift for Jakarta, Indonesia welcoming 2020 (Floods) - MoP Indonesia X Yayasan Baitul Maal PLN (Foundation of State Electricity Company)
Jakarta as the capital city of Indonesia was got a “special” gift on welcoming 2020. The fact is, right after the fireworks attraction has finished, the heavy rain was coming in all area of Jakarta. The rain continued until the next day, and it caused flash floods everywhere even at the place that never flooded before.
Based on information that we have, this is the biggest floods ever since 2011. The sudden and unpredictable time made everyone overwhelmed and don’t know what to do to rescue their important stuffs. The highest water level is 4 meters, where we can only see the roof of the houses. Therefore, so many thing was missed and gone, including their personal document, school’s equipment and even their cars washed away by the flood.
A week after flood, all government institutions are working together, including our governor to clean up the after-flood effect. The first thing that is needed by the flood victims is the medicines, foods, clothes, school equipment (books, pencils, etc.) and toiletries. Fortunately, the government institutions, State-Owned Enterprises and Non-Government Organization was quickly response this situation, they came to the evacuation center and deliver some relief items.
Two weeks after flood, Messengers of Peace Indonesia team initiates to work with one of State-Owned Enterprise namely Yayasan Baitul Maal PLN (Foundation of State Electricity Company). We are thinking to move on the psychological and educational area. We bought the school equipment (books, pencils, pen, eraser, sharpener, ruler and goodie bag), meanwhile, YBM PLN has support this movement by providing backpack and lite snacks. Its such great collaboration.
As the YBM PLN team research, there is one area that was flooded but did not receive too much attention namely Kota Bambu, West Jakarta. The victim in that area are mostly children with school age where all their stationary washed away by the flood. Therefore, we visited that area (03 & 04 Elementary School of Kota Bambu, West Jakarta) to deliver stationary and other relief items. Besides that, we also treat the children with the motivational words and fun games to heal their soul to be better.
At the day we deliver that stuffs, the local government was come and sending their thankful speech to us. This program was help around 150 children who lose their stationary and other school equipment. We were so happy to help and meet with our family out there.
