Our group consisting of 20 Scouts and 20 non Scout community members, on the first day of our project, 8th of June 2012 the children visited the South African Biodiversity Institute (SANBI). At the biodiversity institute we spent full day learning about biodiversity and the differences between alien and indigenous plants. At the end of the presentation we spent some time discussing how can we best implement what we have learned in our local communities? On the second day, the 9th of June 2012 we organized a clean - up campaign at Msongwaba Township. We chose Msogwaba because it is a part of the community with the highest number of alien plants. Additionally most people who live in that area are less educated about biodiversity. Also, Msongwaba community is a Trust, meaning it is still under the administration of the Chief and service delivery is very slow in the area, and as a result rubbish is dumped everywhere. As a group we shared information by educating the public about different plants, their function and how to protect nature. We also managed to remove some alien plants around the area.
