Serving the Elderly

The service clubs in Jamaica are always finding ways to help improve the lives of persons in the society. The Lions Club of New Kingston is one such group that has embarked on a programme to provide a cooked meal for elderly persons in the city. This is done once per month with the assistance of kind contributors.  The Scouts of West Kingston and St. Andrew district recognised that this is something they should be a part of. With the assistance of the Chief Commissioner  the scouts approached the Lions club to identify ways in which they could assist.  Without hesitation the Scouts were invited to give a hand in issuing the meals and just speaking with the persons they saw on the road who really needed a friend. The experience left the three Scouts wanting to do more and so out of this they have contacted other Scouts who will help them prepare igloos of drinks to issue to the elderly more days for the month.  "Just talking to these people made me recognise that they are just like me, its only that they sometimes need someone to talk with" expressed one Scout.
