STORY OF THE EVENT :
On September 25, 2019 a total of 30 Sipitang Scouts leaders, Scouts with Special Needs gathered together for their first International Peace Month Celebration held in the PPKI’s building of SK. Pekan Sipitang.
The activity started with the Grand Howl at the school field led by Skipper Fridorine. After renewing the Scouts Oath led by the Troop Leader, Mohd. Afi Rizqie bin Mohd. Zaidi, then Skipper Fridorine gave a short briefing to the Scouts leaders and the Scouts members regarding the Messenger of Peace activity and the objectives of the International Peace Month Celebration.
It was obviously shown by the Scouts leaders and members on that day thay they were excited and glad that they were part of the programme as it was the first time ever will be done at their school.
As the competition will be done between three sekawan that are Sekawan Merah, Sekawan Hijau and Sekawan Ungu, each team were given clues and have to find another four clues in the school surroundings together with their teachers before pursuing another mission.
First clue has been given to each team and they started The Amazing Race for Peace by finding clues kept in the coloured envelopes in the PPKI’s building and in the school surroundings.
Even though some of the Special Need Scouts were not able to run as fast as the Scouts members, they were still able to participate and compete despite of their disability with the help from their teachers. Apparently, it was not only the Special Need Scouts were excited but the teachers looked they had fun too despite of they need to deal with the crowded area at the school’s hall since the afternoon session pupils were already gathered before they started their learning session.
All the three Sekawans did their race very well since they were able to get all the clues quite fast. Since they got all the clues, the three teams headed back to the PPKI’s building to complete the Messenger of Peace (M.o.P) and the International Day of Peace logo puzzles in the A3 sized paper provided.
The Sekawan Hijau were the first team completed their puzzles, followed by Sekawan Merah and Sekawan Ungu. It was a relief and a happy moment for each team members for they had completed the mission of the race.
Skipper Fridorine congratulate and thanked to the teachers and the Scouts members for their excellent co-operation thus a great news to all of them that they were part of the Messenger of Peace’s programme of the year and qualified to earn the M.o.P’s badge.
After taking a short break, all the Scouts members and teachers of PPKI SK. Pekan Sipitang learnt the Messenger of Peace dance. Even though it was their first time learning the dance, they had done it very well and they looked very adorable especially when doing the M.o.P hand sign.
A few members of the Special Need Scouts and teachers were also able to share their experience and thoughts about the programme and activities done on that day. They proudly say that they were happy and can not wait to share the experience with their family afterwards as they wish there will be many M.o.P programmes involving the Special Needs children will be done in the future.
The activity ended that day by taking pictures together to be posted to the Facebook and to the school’s group Whatsapp. Many positive feedbacks received from the parents later.
