Scouts for the Environment: 3R Socialization
Waste is one of the main problems in Indonesia. In 2016, household waste in Indonesia reached 65,200,000 tons per year, causing environmental problems. This is due to low public awareness of its management. For example, 54.8% of households never carry shopping bags and only 1.2% recycle them. For this reason, we are conducting outreach regarding 3R with the hope that people will be more sensitive to their environment and be able to implement it.
This project was carried out to coincide with car free day (CFD) activities in the Thamrin - HI area. Project initiation begins with a briefing at the base regarding the things that must be done. and continued with a long march towards the area. Throughout the trip, we carried banners containing the points on the 3Rs. Apart from that, each of us carries out verbal outreach to the community, accompanied by the provision of brochures explaining each aspect of 3R and its urgency.
The socialization carried out attracted around 200 people who were thus educated regarding 3R. Through this education, people become more aware and sensitive to their environment and are able to implement 3R behavior so that the quantity of waste can be reduced and the environment will be better.
Through this project, we learned that not all educated and uneducated people are aware of sustainability and preserving the environment. There needs to be more effort, especially from government agencies at various levels, to intensify the socialization and implementation of 3R behavior as a step to preserve the environment through reducing waste. As an educated society, we also need to support this through invitations and implementation.
